Welcome to DiaSock® - the diabetic friendly range of socks
The Diasock range of diabetic friendly socks were specifically designed for diabetics and developed with comfort in mind. The Diasock range is an essential aid to people suffering from diabetes or poor blood circulation. Diasock diabetic socks have absolutely no elastic in them and the patented use of alternating bands, stops the sock from falling down. A conventional sock makes use of elastic to hold the sock up on the legs of the wearer. The disadvantage of elastic is that it constricts circulation which can not only be painful to the wearer but can cause several complications for people with diabetes. The Diasock is therefore an essential tool in maintaining good foot care for diabetics. A natural fibre cotton or wool sock is best to absorb sweat and moisture, which would otherwise be an ideal breading ground for bacteria and infection. This will also help to reduce friction and allowing the foot to breathe, thereby minimising blisters and ulcers forming. One size sock does not fit all and therefore Diasock is available in four sizes ensuring comfort and a better fit.
Regular Socks vs Diasock®
The problem with regular socks is that they are:
- Not good at controlling foot moisture
- They are made one size to fit all
- They make use of elastic to hold the sock up on the legs of the wearer.
1. Controlling foot moisture
A moist environment in the shoe can lead to friction, creating
blisters, ulcers and possibly more serious complications. A
moist environment is also a breeding ground for bacteria that
causes infection.
A cotton or wool blend sock is ideal for controlling moisture allowing
for proper air circulation so that the feet can breathe and
thereby creating a less hospitable breeding environment for
bacteria. Controlling foot moisture will also alleviate
friction and irritation that would normally cause the sock to
rub against the skin causing cuts, sores and blisters.
Diasock® is available in casual cotton or winter wool, both natural fibres.
2. Diasock is not a “one size fits all” sock
A “one size fits all” sock cannot fit everyone correctly. The correct fit, particularly for diabetics, should be neither too loose nor too tight, but should ensure a snug fit. A comfortable fit should ensure proper blood circulation in the feet.
Diasock® is available in four shoe sizes, 4-6, 6½ - 8, 8½ - 10, 10½ - 12, ensuring that you are able to buy a sock that fits well.
3. Diasock does not use elastic
Elastic in the top of socks restricts circulation which means that blood flow is limited. If blood flow is limited then the body cannot heal as efficiently as it should, and could lead to a higher chance of injuries becoming infected.
Unlike other socks Diasock® has absolutely no elastic in it and through the patented use of alternating bands, stops the sock from falling down. By not restricting circulation, Diasock makes sure that your immune system can work at its full potential, not only reducing the chance of infection, but the same factors will also greatly reduce the time it takes for sores to heal.
Choosing The Right Diabetic Sock
Ultimately the final choice belongs to the person wearing the socks. The most important factor is comfort without irritation. Choosing the right diabetic sock does not mean you have to compromise. Diasock’s are available in a number of colours and in both a light weight Casual Cotton or the thicker Winter Wool.
